New Restaurant Alert: Bistro Charlemagne is worth the trip to Ayala Malls Feliz

I’m from the north which means Ayala Malls Feliz is within my reach; however, I do not live near the area even pass by it because I have no reason to. But after a great dining experience at one of the newest restaurant in that mall, I finally have a reason to visit the area again. The place is called Bistro Charlemagne, a concept by Little Asia. Does “Little Asia” sound familiar to you? Well, it should as it was a restaurant in Tomas Morato back in 2001. Little Asia (LA) gained popularity for its Asian fusion cuisine which led to the opening of three other branches located at Greenhills, McKinley Hill, and Lucky Chinatown Mall. Fast forward to early 2015, LA owner-manager Mr. Charlemagne Lim developed a new Asian-European fusion concept which he called Bistro Charlemagne. They opened their first branch at Ayala Malls Solenad 3 Nuvali. I haven’t been there but I heard good reviews about this bistro. So when I had the opportunity to visit their second branch, I grabbed the chance. …

Lin’s Kitchen Claypot and Noodle House

Lin’s Kitchen Claypot and Noodle House is located at the ground floor of Prime Hotel, one of the newest hotels in the heart of Quezon City. The hotel is the first hospitality business expansion of MEGA Global, the very same company behind the Best Sardines Company in the Philippines – MEGA Sardines and Lin’s Kitchen Claypot and Noodle House. I first noticed this restaurant when I attended an event at this Hotel’s cozy rooftop bar – The Nautilus Bar back in July. When I left the hotel after the event, I saw that Lin’s Kitchen Claypot and Noodle House was still full. So when our family friend recommended the place, I thought why not dine there with my uncle and abuelita? And, we did so last Sunday! The Restaurant The Cantonese restaurant opened its doors in 2016 with the main purpose of serving affordable, authentic, and delicious Chinese food in the city. On our first visit, we got to try the following dishes: Fish Fillet Beancurd ₱250.00 Salt & Pepper Shrimps ₱300.00 Yangchow Fried Rice …

Hing Chun Tea House, Newest Restaurant at Malakas Street

Have you been to Malakas Street in Diliman, Quezon City? You’ll probably say yes because that street features a well-known restaurant. I often visit that street because of that said restaurant; however, there’s now another reason. That would be Hing Chun Tea House. This two-storey Chinese restaurant looks small on the outside. But once you’re in, you’ll see that the place offers a spacious open dining area for their guest. And if you’re celebrating an important milestone with the whole family and friends, they have two private rooms on the second floor. Each private room can fit 10 people which can be combined to accommodate more guests. What about the food? Well, Hing Chun Tea House offers a wide selection of dishes and we got to try the following dishes: Westlake Beef Soup Nasi Goreng Fried Rice Pineapple Seafood Fried Rice Stuffed Mushroom Shrimp Duck Wok Noodles Singaporean Bihon Fish Tofu Tausi Salt & Pepper Spareribs Dimsum: Beef Ball, Kuchay Dumplings, Pork Siomai and Japanese Siomai with Century Egg Yes, that’s a lot of dishes …

Fat Fook: A Taste of Taiwan

Taiwan is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Filipinos. If you take a look at your Facebook feed, pretty sure you will find a post or two from your friends about their recent Taipei trip. The reason why more and more Filipinos visit Taiwan is to experience their wonderful sights and of course, food! No surprise there because Taiwan is one of the top culinary destinations in Asia. In fact, in Taipei alone you will find 20 streets dedicated to snacking. (Check out FoodieViwsPH – Charlie’s Taipei food trip here and here) There’s also Tainan, the Culinary Center of Taiwan. But if you’re not yet ready to travel no worries because you can taste Taiwan right here in the metro. Rachel Kao, Ramen Nagi group’s executive chef who was born in Taiwan and grew up in the Philippines started a homegrown concept called Fat Fook. Fat Fook Taiwanese Kitchen Even from afar, Fat Fook Taiwanese Kitchen’s exterior will never fail to catch your eye. When you enter, you will be more amazed because …

Lido Cocina Tsina by Panciteria Lido – Mindanao Avenue

The first Lido Cocina Tsina branch I visited is the one located in Visayas Avenue mainly because it’s near my place. Little did I know there’s another one close to me. The Mindanao Avenue branch may not be as spacious as the one in Visayas Avenue but it does have parking spaces and they’re right beside a gas station. Moreover, this Lido Cocina Tsina branch is well-lit, clean and ventilated. Their staff are courteous and friendly, too! When it comes to food, their Chinese dishes which are adapted to suit the Filipino palate doesn’t disappoint. In fact, they offer many choices which means you will surely find a dish that you will enjoy. They have some Rice Toppings Classico and Rice Toppings Primera perfect for solo diners. But if you’re with your family and/or friends, sharing is way better! For this food trip, we enjoyed the following: Hunan Style Lomi Beef Broccoli Drunken Lechon Macau Manchurian Wings Pugon-Roasted Asado Shrimp Foo-Yong Beef with Shallot Fried Rice Though all these dishes are delicious, there are a few that …

Time for Some Cantonese Cuisine at King Chef Dimsum Kitchen

If you want to enjoy some sumptuous Cantonese cuisine, head over to King Chef Dimsum Kitchen at The Food Circuit, The Block – SM City North EDSA. Now don’t be confused with King Chef Dimsum Kitchen and King Chef Seafood Restaurant because they are basically the same. Both were established by a husband-and-wife team – Michael Chan-Ang and Marites Apiado-Ang. Their journey began when Marites experimented and created various kinds of healthy but delicious soups for her husband who was dealing with an ailment. Michael loved the “soup treatment” which then sparked an idea. As a result, they opened a Cantonese Soup Kitchen.

LIDO Cocina Tsina and the Lucky Angpao Tree

This was posted on February 15, 2015 but the original one got lost in the clouds… Moving to another country can be quite sad especially if you’ve established friendships and connections for the past 83 years of your life. Realizing that you left everything behind, you start to miss the people, the views especially the food. So when my grandmother’s longtime friend came here for a short visit, we immediately took her out for lunch. Our choice was LIDO Cocina Tsina by Panciteria LIDO.

Inspired Eating at Tao Yuan by New Peach Blossoms Restaurant

Dining at Tao Yuan involves eating delicious food in a pleasant and inspiring setting. The name Tao Yuan which means peach garden suggests beauty and colors. Located at Chimes Square in Congressional Avenue Extension, my lola and I decided to have a belated birthday dinner for my ninong at Tao Yuan. The restaurant wasn’t that big and the tables on the first floor were easily filled. But the courteous staff informed us that there are more tables on the second floor. With their assistance, it was easier for my grandmother to take the stairs.
