17 Full-Length Films to Compete in Cinemalaya 17

No worries, the Main Competition for Full-length Films will make its comeback big time, with 17 films competing for the plum Best Film and other major awards in the 17th edition of the country’s biggest independent film festival.  The competing films include the 2020 Cinemalaya full-length finalists who had to, unfortunately, put their film projects on hold due to the pandemic.  They are: ANG HALIMAW by Emmanuel Q. Palo; ANGKAS by Rainerio Yamson II; BAKIT DI MO SABIHIN (Tell Her) by Real Florido; BULA SA LANGIT by Sheenly Gener; KALUSKOS by Roman Perez Jr.; KARGO by TM Malones; KATHOEY by Joris Fernandez, Paolo Valconcha; PAROLE by Briliant Juan; SEPERATE/SEPARATE by David Corpuz; and THE BASEBALL PLAYER by Carlo Gallen Obispo.

Tokwifi Named Best Short Feature Film in Cinemalaya 2020

BESTING nine other films, Tokwifi prevails in this year’s edition of Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival as it brought home the coveted Best Short Feature Film and NETPAC Prize awards during the Awarding Program held on August 12, 2020, live on CCP and Cinemalaya Facebook pages, Vimeo and KUMU. Directed by Carla Pulido Ocampo, Tokwifi was cited for its “highly original take on love between two persons coming from different eras and worlds, and how modernity and tradition could best be bridged by common humanity.”

Free Screenings at Cinemalaya 2020

Watch the award-winning short stories from across the Asia in Visions of Asia and Allied Festival sections.  These films screenings are made possible through the partnerships with Eiga Sai Japan Film Festival, EuroPelikula, and Iran Film Festival.

Cinemalaya 2020 Begins To Stream Consciousness on Aug. 7

THE most anticipated film event of the year, the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, streams consciousness beginning August 7, Friday, on the streaming site Vimeo. Co-produced by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Cinemalaya Foundation Inc., the biggest indie film festival in the country opens with a short virtual program, with pre-recorded messages from Cinemalaya and CCP airing on the official CCP and Cinemalaya Facebook pages, Vimeo and Kumu, at 2pm.
