Recipe: Sōmen Noodles with VEEGA Meat-Free Balls

I discovered something new and great! It’s called VEEGA, San Miguel’s meat-free, vegetarian line. VEEGA’s product line is made from plant-based protein ingredients which contain egg whites and are locally produced.

Are you interested?

VEEGA meat-free line ranges from Balls, Burger Patty, Giniling, Nuggets and Sausage. Would you like a closer look? I made an unboxing video as well as a cooking video over at my YouTube channel. I choose the Veega Meat-Free Balls. Since the weather is still cold, a warm bowl of noodles is perfect!

A little reminder, I am cooking this with my abuelita (grandmother) in mind. This means that I need to adjust my food preparations. For instance, the vegetables are cut in a certain way and I slowly add the salt and pepper according to her taste. You can, of course, do it how you wish. But here’s how I do this recipe. Now, you may click play! 🙂 SUBSCRIBE!

Veega Meat-Free Balls with Sōmen Noodles

  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, grated
  • 1 small carrot, peeled and shredded and/or sliced (I like to mix them.)
  • 1 cabbage head, separate the leaves and chop up the stem part
  • 1 tbsp. of cooking oil
  • 1 pack of VEEGA Meat-Free Balls
  • Water
  • Sōmen Noodles
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Sauté sliced onion and grated garlic. Then add in the chopped and shredded cabbage and carrots.

Add water. Also, add in the salt, pepper and other seasonings. *Only add a small amount to be safe. We can always add more as we proceed. Cover and let it boil.

Add in the cabbage leaves. Open a pack of Veega Meat-free balls and add all. *A pack contains 8 balls, 13g of protein per serving.

Before adding in the somen noodles, taste and see if the soup base needs more seasoning. *Take note, Somen noodles are slender. Don’t cook them too long. A minute-and-a-half to two minutes will do. Once the somen noodles are in, mix them for a while so that the noodles separate.

Cover the pot, let it boil then turn off the heat. You can now start plating. If you have or would like to, you may garnish it with roasted seaweed. *I made some heart-shaped ones!

Have you tried #VeegaMeatFree? If not, I encourage you to do so and I promise it tastes really good. So far I have tried the meat-free balls and meat-free nuggets. I must say that both are delicious and I was left satisfied. Don’t be shy because, with Veega, you can indulge without the guilt! 💚
