Grand Burger – Central Kyoto

Here’s another entry from one of our FoodieViewsPH friends. Aside from “Katsukichi’s Tonkatsu and 500 Imari Ware Sobachoko Wall Display”, Charlie also discovered the go-to restaurant for Kyoto’s carnivores. What’s That? Where’s That? The place is called Grand Burger restaurant which is just a short walk east of the north end of the Kyoto Gosho Imperial Palace Park. The burger cafe was launched in 2015 but before that burger lovers did not have a lot of options besides the usual international and local burger chains. If you happen to be in the area and craving for burgers, this is the perfect place to visit. Just take note that the Grand Burger is just a few steps from the walls of the Imperial Palace. This means that people sightseeing will likely choose this spot. Since it is a simple restaurant with a chef and one waitress, serving time may take a while. But do not worry because it will be all worth it. Grand Burger serves tasty burgers with toppings such as avocado and bacon. They …

New Restaurant Alert: Bistro Charlemagne is worth the trip to Ayala Malls Feliz

I’m from the north which means Ayala Malls Feliz is within my reach; however, I do not live near the area even pass by it because I have no reason to. But after a great dining experience at one of the newest restaurant in that mall, I finally have a reason to visit the area again. The place is called Bistro Charlemagne, a concept by Little Asia. Does “Little Asia” sound familiar to you? Well, it should as it was a restaurant in Tomas Morato back in 2001. Little Asia (LA) gained popularity for its Asian fusion cuisine which led to the opening of three other branches located at Greenhills, McKinley Hill, and Lucky Chinatown Mall. Fast forward to early 2015, LA owner-manager Mr. Charlemagne Lim developed a new Asian-European fusion concept which he called Bistro Charlemagne. They opened their first branch at Ayala Malls Solenad 3 Nuvali. I haven’t been there but I heard good reviews about this bistro. So when I had the opportunity to visit their second branch, I grabbed the chance. …

Dulcinea at Robinsons Magnolia

Whenever my family and I dine at Dulcinea, we would always order churros con chocolate. Why, you ask? Well, there’s something fascinating about this Spanish dessert. Just hearing it makes you want to eat one right away. And Dulcinea is the first place that comes to mind when we crave for one. The branch we always visit is Tomas Morato; however, we were at Robinsons Magnolia that day. So I checked my Zomato app and found out that they’re located on the third floor. Dulcinea Restaurant This classic restaurant has been serving Spanish cuisine with a Filipino touch since 1963, over 50 years now. But do you know who founded it? It was Señor Santos Ruano. He travelled from Spain to the Philippines in 1961 and opened up a little pasteleria on Mabini Street in Ermita called Dulcinea Pasteleria y salon de Te. With his knowledge and his grandparents recipes, he introduced various Spanish dishes and sugary treats including the traditional Spanish dessert that we all enjoy. Churros! Fast forward to the present, Dulcinea continues …

Filipino Films You Can Stream on NETFLIX Right Now

Yes, you read that right. Once upon a time, there were only two Filipino films on NETFLIX – “Birdshot” and “Metro Manila”. If you’ve read my “Birdshot” review by filmmaker Mikhail Red, you know that this is the first Filipino film released worldwide by Netflix. Birdshot (2016) Diego, a rural caretaker, shows his 14-year-old daughter Maya how to shoot a gun to learn self-sufficiency. She ends up killing an endangered Philippine eagle, bringing unforeseen and frightening consequences into their quiet life. Initial release: October 2016 (Japan) Director: Mikhail Red My thoughts: A COMING-of-age thriller: “Birdshot” by filmmaker Mikhail Red Metro Manila (2013) Oscar flees from a life of poverty and moves with his family to Manila. They fall victim to the hardened locals until Oscar finds work with an armoured car company. Release date: 9 October 2013 (Philippines) Director: Sean Ellis I honestly think (and probably you do, too) that there are numerous Filipino films that deserve to be seen worldwide. If NETFLIX is one of the gateways, then why not? If you have an …
