Mix & Match Your Rice and Toppings at Mang Bowlero

Have you visited Grub Hub lately? The hippest and trippiest food park located along Visayas Avenue is offering new food concepts one of which is Mang Bowlero.

Mang Bowlero offers a variety of Filipino rice meals. Simple, right? The plus point though is you can mix and match the rice and toppings for only P99. But if you prefer a different type of rice or avail an add-on, you will need to pay a little extra.

So are you ready to mix and match?

First you need to choose your desired meal. You can choose among the following: Bicol Express, Crispy Lechon, Kare Kare, Pork Binagoongan and Tapsilog. Then it’s time to choose the rice. Technically, the plain rice is free but if you prefer their Oriental Rice or Seafood Rice, you have to add Php20. If you think that’s not enough, you have the option to avail some add-ons such as Lumpiang Shanghai (Php30), Pinsec Frito (Php30) and Crispy Pork Belly (Php60).

ClariSays.com was able to try Kare Kare with Plain Rice, Tapsilog with Oriental Rice and Crispy Lechon with Seafood Rice. We didn’t avail the add-ons because the amount of food was enough. Plus, we love dessert so we have to leave some room for it! 😀

The Verdict: All the meals we chose were delicious; however, there were problems. The Kare Kare was on the tough side making it difficult to enjoy. Another one that was just a little bit on the tough side but we’re able to enjoy was the Tapsilog. The Crispy Lechon we didn’t have problems because the lechon was thinly cut and was very crispy and flavorful.

Now, let’s talk about the rice choices. Does it matter if you choose a rice other than the plain one? For us, yes. If the meal you chose has a lot of sauce, get the plain one. For the Tapsilog and Crispy Lechon, either Oriental Rice or Seafood Rice will do because the these two aren’t that strongly flavored. It blends well with the Tapsi and Crispy Lechon.

So, will we comeback? Definitely! The meals do need improvement in terms of tenderizing. But if you put that aside, the meals and options they offer are simple, delicious and affordable which is great. Plus, we tried their dishes during the soft opening week. Pretty sure there will be some changes the next time we visit.

Mang Bowlero is located at Grub Hub 47 Visayas Ave, Quezon City, 1128 Metro Manila

Happy eating!
