If you’ve seen “The End of the F***ing World”, I’m 100% sure you enjoyed it. But if you haven’t seen it let alone heard of it, I suggest to give it a little attention. The series tells the story of a boy and a girl who embarked on a journey of self-discovery while losing their f ***ing minds in the process. 😉
Don’t be scared. It’s a great highly-recommended series. Promise!
The End of the F***ing World is originally a self-published graphic novel by Charles Forsman. It was republished by Fantagraphics Books in 2013 and later in 2017 as it was made into a series. It was aired last October on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom and was internationally released on January 2018 by Netflix.
The End of the F***ing World
Written by Charlie Covell
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak
James is 17 and is pretty sure he is a psychopath. Alyssa, also 17, is the cool and moody new girl at school. The pair make a connection and she persuades him to embark on a road trip in search of her real father.
Yup, that pretty much sums up everything really. The only thing you don’t know is what they did in the journey. Well, I’m not going to tell you exactly what happened but I will tell you my thoughts.
James and Alyssa are both 17 and quite relatable. They both have issues with their family and the world. Cursing is pretty much part of their vocabulary; however, Alyssa, the cool and moody new girl in school has one intense uncensored mouth. Though their thoughts and actions can get a little disturbing, I found this whole demeanor refreshing.
Don’t get me wrong. I see perfection in this messed up bubble because they didn’t hold back – at all!
Take note that Forman’s material is a violent coming-of-age novel that tackles murder, sex, suicide and more. These are sensitive and pressing issues difficult to deal with whether in a web series or not. Good thing, the series is cleverly-written and executed.
Life lessons wasn’t hard to find even though it gets quite f***ed up sometimes. I guess that made every episode unforgettable. There was actually never a time where I questioned the existence of a specific scene or episode. Oh, I think that’s also because of the young actors, Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden. They were able to fully justify our beloved characters – James and Alyssa.
Though dark, The End of the F***ing World is a series worth everyone’s time. It has all the elements you want in a show – compelling story, clever writing, proper execution, great actors and of course, life lessons. The only thing you need to consider is who should watch it.
Honestly, The End of the F***ing World is not for kids! There is violence which is not good for the younger audience. This is more suitable for people a little older and have a very mature and open mind. It would be great if they watch it with their parents as both generations will be able to learn something valuable. IMDb 10/10
