My family and I discovered Kangaroo Jack way back in 2011. It was actually my birthday and we were looking for place to have a nice dinner. Seeing that Kangaroo Jack was almost packed, we decided to try it out. I mean, why would a place be packed if the food isn’t great, right?
Let me tell you that we were not disappointed. The food and atmosphere were great plus the service was okay, too. So after that, I visited the restaurant a couple more times with different people and trying their other dishes besides steaks and ribs. Unfortunately, from a great dining experience things turned sour.
The staff weren’t attentive. They didn’t know where to look making it difficult to order. But once food was ordered, it would take a while for the food to be served. Sure, the place was packed but they weren’t understaffed. Not only that, but the food was different. We didn’t enjoy it anymore. So I stopped visiting.
Fast forward to one weekend on November 2017, my family and I decided to dine at Kangaroo Jack. Though there wasn’t a staff at the host stand to greet or help customers as they enter, the waiting staff were very attentive and pleasant. Most of them looked up and welcomed the new diner. Then the nearest staff ushered us to our preferred seat.
Kangaroo Jack offers steak, chicken BBQ, seafood and pasta. Their most recommended dish is the Baby Back Ribs – pork ribs marinated with your choice of Kangaroo Jack’s special sauce (Hickory BBQ or Spicy) served with java rice and steamed veggies. They also have a Full Slab! Baby Back Ribs which is served with fries and onion rings.
For this visit, we had the Sirloin Steak (P240), the Steak Combo Meal (P195) and Pesto with Grilled Chicken (P170).
The Sirloin Steak is served with java rice (or mashed potato), steamed veggies and mushroom gravy. It is indeed tender and juicy grilled to your liking but the meal could use a little bit more veggies. Moving on with the Steak Combo Meal. This is served with green salad, french fries and soup which is a good choice because you get quite a good amount of delicious food for that price.
Now based on past dining experiences, the steak and ribs are really their specialty. The must-avoid at all cost is the pasta. But this time I was brave enough to order one because I was really craving for Pesto.
I am happy to say that we enjoyed their Pesto with Grilled Chicken. It was sauteed in olive oil and fresh basil pesto sauce topped with grilled chicken strips served with garlic bread. It was really flavorful. The only problem is it was too oily.
Btw, for drinks I recommend the Green Tea Flavored Iced Tea. So refreshing!
Overall, our lunch at Kangaroo Jack was good. It wasn’t the best but it wasn’t that bad considering our past experiences. Would I return? Yeah, sure. Kangaroo Jack offers a variety of dishes that are good and budget-friendly. Plus, the service is way better than before. I just hope it will still be like that in the future plus more improvements to some of the dishes.
