The sequel to the biggest superhero movie of all time started playing in Philippine cinemas last week. A few days later, it was announced that the film broke several records one of which is the “biggest opening day of all time” beating “Man of Steel”. In fact, on the five-day opening weekend Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” grossed P339.83 million nationwide.

Other records:

• Biggest Wednesday box office gross – P72.74 million (surpassing “Iron Man 3”)
• Biggest non-holiday Thursday box office gross – P50.09 million (surpassing “Iron Man 3”)
• Biggest Friday box office gross – P51.77 million (overtaking “Iron Man 3)
• Biggest Saturday box office gross – P81.96 million (breaking “Transformers: Age of Extinction”)
• Biggest Sunday box office gross (ahead of “Iron Man 3′) and biggest single-day box office gross (past “Transformers: Age of Extinction”) at P83.27 million.

It’s no wonder that the “Avengers Age of Ultron” broke so many records. Marvel itself has numerous followers; not to mention, the individual characters’ stand-alone films. Fans and viewers like to see how they tie everything up similar to the “The Avengers” (2012) film.

With the release of Iron Man 3 (2013), Thor: The Dark World (2013), and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), there’s a huge expectation. Judging from the character developments, the introduction of new characters with fierce powers and the film’s shift from an amusing, action-packed film to a darker tone, I can say that “Avengers Age of Ultron” is quite a satisfying sequel.

Though some viewers say it lacks humour and there are too many heroes. Well, you can’t expect to save the world and make jokes all the time. Receiving threats and saving the world changes one’s entire being. We can see that from where the events of Loki’s mischief ended, the main characters experienced different kinds of fear, especially in the “Age of Ultron”.

Moreover, there are things in this world that you need other people’s help to survive, for instance, the conversation between these two.

Tony Stark: Does anybody remember when I put a missile through a portal, in New York City? We were standing right under it. We’re the Avengers, we can bust weapons dealers the whole doo-da-day, but how do we cope with something like that?

Steve Rogers: Together.
Tony Stark: We’ll lose.

“Together!”, it says in the film Avengers which means there will be more than one hero involved. Similar to the 2012 film, the heroes each have their own special moments – good and bad. In the end, the film proved that they are still the biggest superhero movie of all time.
