Where to Shop this Christmas (Part 1)

During Christmas or Pasko (as we call it in the Philippines), people buy many things – for the home or as holiday gifts. It is the time of the year when people become more generous and giving. However, not everyone has the BUDGET to purchase just about anything. In this first part of the blog post, I will be sharing where to shop for Christmas decorations.

Dapitan - Street Sign

Take a Trip to Dapitan Street

Dapitan corner Kanlaon st. Bgy. Sta. Teresita in Quezon City is the perfect place to shop for Christmas decorations. When taking a trip to Dapitan Street, make sure you wear comfy clothes and shoes. Why you ask? There are tents neatly aligned on the sides of the streets with vendors selling various holiday decorations. There are more selling inside the Dapitan Arcade and another building. In short, you will do a lot of walking. Also, there is no need to worry  if you are bringing a car because there are parking spaces around Dapitan Street and there will be people guiding you where you can park.

Now, you’re all set!

Here are a few guidelines to help you shop this Christmas.

  • Make sure you know what you want and set a budget.
  • Have patience to roam, roam, roam and ask, ask, ask. This will help you compare prices and decide where to buy.
  • Once you have decided, learn to bargain. The reason why people love to shop there is because the prices are lower compared to malls. There’s no harm in lowering the price a bit more especially if you will be buying many items from that shop.
  • Check the items before buying them. If you will be buying lights or a parol (Christmas lantern), some vendors will say you can bring them back for replacement or they do repairs. Ask for their name and numbers. When we bought a Christmas tree, ornaments, lights, and garlands in one store, we found out that we needed more lights. Since we have the vendor’s number, we simply called her and reserved. Then went there the same day and got our additional Christmas light.

Now, not all items sold there are for the Christmas season only. There are items for Halloween and home decorations as well. There are even unique finds at Dapitan Arcade such as wine bottle lights. As mentioned earlier, have the patience to roam around because good finds comes to those who are patient!

Happy Christmas shopping!
