Craving for sweets? Let’s be honest, no one can escape that feeling.
According to Christine Gerbstadt, MD, RD, dietitian and spokeswoman of American Dietetic Association, sweet is the first taste humans prefer from birth. In addition, Susan Moores, MS, RD, registered dietitian and nutrition consultant in St. Paul, Minn said that the taste of sugar also releases endorphin that calm and relax us, and offer a natural “high.”
Clearly, we can’t avoid sweets like ice cream, crepe and cupcakes even if we know these have high fat content. But with limitations it won’t be a problem.
During my two-week Christmas vacation, I had an extreme craving for sweets. Since we did not prepare anything sweet for our Noche Buena and Media Noche, I was able to discover the following sweets.
After our dinner at Mezza Norte in TriNoma, one of my friends mentioned about the newly opened Family Mart in Caltex right beside McDonald’s. She said that the ice cream costs 25 pesos but is delicious. Since we were all craving for ice cream, we decided to try it out.
When we got there, I saw that the flavor was Green Tea. I hate green tea because it tastes like grass. But its ice cream, I can’t say no to ice cream. To my surprise, the cone is large and its twirl all you can. So, I carefully filled the cone and then twirled.
The Green Tea Ice Cream tasted like heaven. Large cone, delicious ice cream and twirl all you can, my 25 pesos was definitely worth it!
I love crepe. The first time I tasted it was during lunch time at Miriam College cafeteria. The Crepeman was fairly new but students would patiently line up. During those college days, my friends and I also did wait patiently. Chocolate crepe and Tuna crepe were the bestsellers. When we graduated, we no longer had the chance to go back and eat it one again.
But last year, Crepeman Café opened at Maginhawa St. in UP Teacher’s Village. It’s the same Crepeman we had in school, only bigger. Now Crepeman Café, they offer a number of crunchylicious crepes and drinks. The only problem was that it’s far from where I live.
Fortunately, Crepeman Café was franchised again and a new branch was opened at the second floor of Phoenix Gas Station in Congressional Avenue Extension. It’s a walking distance from our village. I am so lucky. I don’t know what their bestseller is now. But my favorite is Ferrero Crepe and HamTaro partnered with a cold Arizona tea.
I wrote a post about my friends Kaye and Jeca’s cupcake business last 2012. You can read it here.
Back then, they don’t have a name and they only offered the famous Red Velvet w/ cream cheese frosting cupcake and Dark Chocolate cupcake. These sweet temptations are rich in flavor and heavenly. But last November, The Nibbles was born along with a new menu.
I bought the Box of 6’s Assorted (2 of everything). My favorite was Red Velvet w/ cream cheese, but now it’s actually their new flavor the Green Tea with white chocolate frosting cupcake. It’s not too sweet, just right.
If you’re craving for ice cream, crepes and cupcakes, you may try visiting the places I’ve have shared or contacting (the Nibbles) them. There’s nothing wrong with indulging yourself in sweets once in a while. Our bodies also need them. Quoting Susan Moores, MS, RD, registered dietitian and nutrition consultant in St. Paul, Minn, the taste of sugar also releases endorphin that calm and relax us, and offer a natural “high.”
So just make sure you have control and know your limitations.
