How to Start the New Year Right

So, how exactly will we do this? Is it by creating New Year’s resolution that we often forget? Or, by creating life goals and plans to make sure you have the best year ever?

I choose to create attainable life goals and plans to make every year the best. Not only that, but I also added some elements that would make life brighter.

You’ll need:

A Planner
I’m the type of person who forgets many things. To avoid missing an important occasion or a deadline, I downloaded an Android application on Google Play. The reminders I save are directly copied to my Google Calendar. It has an alarm and sends me a reminder via email. However, there are things that are best written on a planner.

Before the New Year, I search for suitable planners. I’m happy that I found the perfect one from Moonleaf. Their new planner has a Pledge Doodle Space where you write down your Major Goals as well as Mini Goals for the year ahead.

A Positive Mind
Stress is inevitable, but worrying is not. So stop worrying and pray instead. Let go of negative thoughts that makes you weak. But think about things that give you strength.

Let go of guilt, fear and regrets. Try to look forward and take small steps to “whatever” it is you want. Stop blaming others for your misfortune but don’t be hard on yourself. Learn to accept that some things aren’t meant to be.

God has a better plan for you, for me and for everyone else. We just have to learn to coordinate with God and everything will be fine.

A Balanced & Healthy Environment
Based on my experience, a healthy environment results to a happier and healthier me.

Since I work at home, I have to find a great spot to set up my mini office. The bedroom is a big NO-NO! This is where I sleep and rest. It’s a place of solitude. So I chose the spot near the terrace and living room. I have a nice view, fresh air and enough space.

Every morning, I have a 15-minute break. I use this to get a little sunshine and do a short exercise. During lunch time, I leave my desk, eat at the dining area and take advantage of the one-hour break. Then the last 15-minute afternoon break is where I take a short nap. After work, I clean my mini office and do any activity that doesn’t involve the computer.

Moreover, I placed some plants and flowers near my mini office and keep the windows open for a fresh air. On weekends, I meet with friends or go out with my family. Lastly, I make sure that I go to church on Sundays.

An Uplifting Playlist
‘Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.’ – Plato

True, music gets you moving. Let’s say you need to study and concentrate, so you must listen to soothing music that relaxes your mind. To start the New Year right, listen to music that has an upbeat sound and uplifting lyrics such Jay Z featuring Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind”.

I’m the new Sinatra, and since I made it here | I can make it anywhere, yeah, they love me everywhere. |

New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of | There’s nothin’ you can’t do | Now you’re in New York | These streets will make you feel brand new | Big lights will inspire you | Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York |

Other artists I listen to when I start my days are: 2NE1, Big Bang, Ellie Goulding, Florence & the Machine and Fun.

This is how I start my New Year. I know it is hard to follow what you plan. But with a positive mind, anything is possible. How about you? Do you already know how to start the New Year right?
