A multitude of lanterns, each measuring 8-feet in diameter as well as a 50-foot tall Christmas Tree bearing 2,000 environment-friendly LED light bulbs brought sparkle and yuletide cheer to spectators at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Liwasang ASEAN and CCP Main Ramp through a special lighting ceremony to herald the Yuletide Season. The event was a partnership of the CCP with OMNI Electrical and Lighting-Yatai International Corporation, and the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
Emceed by celebrity host Sam Oh, the event’s program featured performances by the Philippine Madrigal Singers, an excerpt of “Peter Pan” by Ballet Philippines, rendition of “Christmas Recollections” by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Wind Ensemble under the baton of Herminigildo Ranera and an excerpt from the well-loved Christmas ballet “The Nutcracker” by Philippine Ballet Theater dancers. Manila mayor Joseph Estrada and City of San Fernando Pampanga vice mayor Jaime T. Lazatin joined other guests in the countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree and lanterns.
The CCP has pioneered in the display of Christmas decor along the Roxas Boulevard stretch of Manila and Pasay. Every Christmas season, for the past four (4) years, the CCP has spotlighted the beauty, craftsmanship and tradition of San Fernando parols. The Center has begun to adopt LED technology and advancements in its environmental impact mitigation advocacy minimizing its carbon footprint and electrical consumption in production and exhibitions programming.
The displays will run until January 03, 2016. (Photo by Kiko Cabuena)
