We only have a few more days to prepare for Christmas. Everyone is busy shopping for gifts, wrapping presents, and attending parties and family gatherings. However, there are those who prefer to do a last minute shopping. And there are also those who do not have the time to do these things at the moment.
Maybe they are waiting for their Christmas leave. Or, maybe they still haven’t found the perfect gift. But really, what is the perfect gift?
It’s difficult to identify what it is because it may be something, someone, or an act. In this blog post, I would like to share different gifts you can give this Christmas.
Give Me Something
I’m finished shopping for Christmas gifts for my cousins and my friends. For my younger cousins, I was torn between toys and things they can use in school or their daily lives.
I purchased the following:
4 in 1 Jumbo Floor Pad and Activities – It features Disney’s Cars and packed with 40 pages of coloring art. It contains 40 pre-printed pages, 640 stickers, eight crayons, six watercolors, one brush and six markers. Kids can decorate with stickers, draw with makers, paint with watercolors and color with crayons. If they finish the activities, they can also use the materials in school.
Chalkboard and colorful chalks – Like any child, my cousin also loves to play teacher and student. However, she would waste a number of bond papers and ink. With these two, her parents don’t have to worry about running out of papers. Plus, my cousin would be really happy and feel like a real teacher.
Water Bottle – This cousin of mine is a taekwondo kid. And you know how thirsty a person gets after practice. Water bottle is the perfect choice for those engaging in such activities. Plus, you’ll be safe from waterborne diseases because you’ll only be drinking the water you got at home.
Planner – Entering high school you’ll need to keep track of numerous activities and assignments. I think Papemelroti’s simple planner is perfect for high school students. I used it in high school and in college where my schedule isn’t that hectic yet.
Book – There are numerous young adult novels available in bookstores. We have Eleanor & Park, The Fault in our Stars and The Hunger Games to name a few. I chose to give The Fault in our Stars. This may have been banned in a or some schools. But I’ve read it and I think they are good role models. They give a positive message and Gus and Hazel’s story can touch you. You just have to have an open and mature mind. This cousin of mine has an incredible grasp and understanding that other kid her age doesn’t.
Notebooks and Colorful Pens – Girls in any age love notebooks and colored pens. They can write their heart out. Express their emotions through poetry, songwriting and the like.
Facial Care Products – This is definitely for girls graduating college and the working girls. Why you ask? Well, the former have thesis while the latter have stress from work. I went to Watsons and bought a few facial care products for my girl friends. Oh! What stress we had these couple of months.
Someone Like You
Let’s say you’re staying in a dorm or have your own apartment. What does that say about you?
You may be alone or with a roommate. But what if the roommate isn’t there? Then, you’re alone… Hmmm So why not be home for Christmas? You may be that someone I was talking about. You may be the perfect gift for your parents, relatives, or a special someone. Everyone deserves to be happy on Christmas.
Christmas is about the birth of Jesus. It’s about giving and family.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
The gift God gave wasn’t wrapped or tied with a bow and it doesn’t have to be. Gifts can also be someone and that someone can be enough. Go pack your bags and go home.
You can say that going home for Christmas is an act, a perfect gift. Yes, that’s true. But I have something else in mind.
An act can be for you or for anyone. How about asking for forgiveness maybe from God or from others? That would be the gift you can give yourself – the gift of reconciliation, the gift of peace. I made my confession early this month. It’s been a December tradition of mine. I do it because I want to have a peace of mind.
Another act you can do is the act of kindness. There are various charities in the world. You can pick which ones you would like to support. However, I think that it would be best to start in your community. Start with those closest to you.
How about school materials for those students who can’t buy their own? How about food for those affected by the recent typhoon? In my recent confession, the priest asked me to also pray for those people. Praying is also an act, it is a powerful gift. Pray for those who are in pain, alone, suffering from poverty and injustice.
Also pray the faithful departed. Light a candle.
Lastly, thank God for all the blessings He gave even the hardships because He is making you a better person.
This Christmas besides that something, don’t forget the most important things in life – family and compassion. Okay? Merry Christmas, dear reader!
