Be sure to smile and make an act of kindness because every first Friday of October is World Smile Day!
It was 1963 when Harvey Ball, freelance artist from Worcester, Massachusetts created the smiley face for a “friendship campaign” of a Worcester-based firm. The smiley became the most recognized symbol which emits good cheer and good will to whoever looks at it. In the early 1970s, the smiley face became the most sold image in the U.S. With an estimated 50 million buttons and appearances in countless products, indeed the symbol attained a life of its own.
However, its popularity faded by mid-1970s but found its way to the top in the late 1980s which continues today. The smiley face knows no politics, no geography and no religion. Join the celebration this year on Friday, October 3 and help turn that frown upside down. Spread positive vibes and good health!
Benefits of Smiling
- Reduces stress – Greet everyone with a smile and you help decrease stress in their system and yours as well.
- Relaxes the mind and body – Studies revealed that a simple smile and laugh lessens risk of heart disease. It also helps lift your mood.
- Makes you younger – Did you know that smiling makes people look at least three years younger? Instead of spending on plastic surgery and anti-aging creams, just smile and be happy!
